On Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November, the Innovation Marathon “Artemis Saitakis” took place at the International Exhibition Centre of Crete, as part of the Innodays 2025 event organized by the Region of Crete. The theme of the hackathon was “Innovative ideas for the sustainable development and promotion of Cretan gastronomic culture.”
Among the winners of the competition was the team “MinoEats,” which was awarded 2nd prize. The team included two members of the Nile Lab and students of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at HMU: Ms. Vasiliki Eirini Chatzea, PhD candidate, and Ms. Sofia Matthaiaki, undergraduate student.
The “MinoEats” concept is a modern platform of digital educational games that combines interactive, entertaining, and experiential elements to teach children the value of the Cretan diet and environmental sustainability. The games resemble commercial gaming experiences while incorporating a strong educational core, enhancing children’s understanding of healthy eating and the importance of caring for the environment. Through this innovative approach, the team highlighted the traditional Cretan diet as both a healthy and environmentally friendly nutritional model. The award was presented to the team by the President of the Regional Council of Crete, Mr. Evangelos Zacharis, recognizing the significance and innovation of the presented idea.
