Our latest open-access paper, “Implementing Educational Innovation in LMSs: Hackathons, Microcredentials, and Blended Learning,” is now published in Applied System Innovation! In this study, we showcase how we transformed the LMS Open eClass into a dynamic, open-learning ecosystem by integrating three key educational innovations:
- Hackathons – collaborative, challenge-driven learning experiences embedded directly into the LMS.
- Microcredentials – stackable, skill-focused certifications aligned with European standards for recognition and portability.
- Blended Learning Support – flexible content delivery combining synchronous, asynchronous, and in-person/online models to boost learner autonomy and engagement.
Key outcomes revealed increased student collaboration, ownership, and satisfaction, showing how these innovations can reshape digital learning environments. The paper also outlines a clear roadmap for scaling this approach across diverse educational contexts.
This work directly supports emerging trends in digital education and responds to the growing demand for flexible, engaging, and competency-driven learning pathways.
